Noël Studer has really arrived in Biel: After two draws in the last two days, he was able to celebrate his first victory in a classic game against the Spaniard David Antón Guijarro today. The Bernese player, who played with the whtite pieces, succeeded in constantly increasing his advantage, so that Anton Guijarro finally had to give up the game after 32 moves. Thanks to the four points thus gained, Studer moves up to 6th place in the intermediate rankings.
Wojtaszek takes the lead
Radoslaw Wojtaszek took the lead in the grandmaster tournament today. With black he defeated Arkadij Naiditsch in a game kept balanced for a long time, before the Grandmaster from Azerbaijan committed crucial mistakes in the final phase and had to give up the game. After his victory in the Rapid games and three draws in a row in the classic games, the Pole confirmed his ambitions with his victory today.
High class from Harikrishna
The match between Pentala Harikrishna and the young high-flyer Vincent Keymer lived up to its promise: the Indian showed a convincing performance, sacrificed a knight by taking three pawns, what gained him the decisive advantage. Keymer fought back with great commitment, but stood no chance in the end. With this victory Harikrishna overtook the German in the ranking and is now in second place.
Romain Édouard played with black for the third time in four days today, drawing for the third time. Today against Mickey Adams, who finished his game quickly, just like yesterday. After 40 moves, the two agreed on a draw by repeating their moves.
