The 52nd edition of the festival will kick off with the Indian international champion Tania Sachdev (photo), who will play 25 games simultaneously from 1 p.m. on in the hall of the Berner Kantonalbank at Zentralstrasse 46.
Parallely to this, the Swiss Rapid Fischer Random Championship (960) will take place in the Kongresshaus. Three international players, such as Gata Kamsky, finalist of the 1996 World Championship, and Parham Maghsoodloo, U20 World Champion in 2018, will participate.
The official opening ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. in the foyer of the Kongresshaus with a welcome by Government Councillor Christoph Neuhaus and the presentation of the eight players of the Grand Master Tournament (GMT). The GMT will begin on Sunday 21 July at 13:00 with the first round of the triathlon.
On Sunday morning at 10.15 am the traditional Swiss Championship of the Rapid Tournament (RAP) will begin, as well as a new free 2-team tournament for students (ACC) supported by the ACCENTUS Foundation.
