GMT-Masters: Mishra stays ahead of Lê and Martirosyan The top two in the Biel GMT-Masters met today – and decided not to challenge each other too much. Abhimanyu Mishra and last year's winner Lê Quang Liêm agreed on a draw relatively quickly, after 22 moves, by repetition. As the same scenario, a draw by repetition, was repeated a little later in the game between third-placed Martirosyan and Praggnanandhaa, the trio Mishra, Lê and Martirosyan remains at the top of the GMT-Masters. The duel between the last-placed players, Keymer vs Shankland, which would have allowed the winner to catch up with the leaders, also resulted in a draw. Jonas Bjerre, the top seeded player in the GMT-Challengers, was able to make a leap forward today, finally winning his first points in classical chess after two defeats. Am GMT-Masters am Bieler Schachfestival haben alle Grossmeister heute die Punkte geteilt. Abhimanyu Mishra und Lê Quang Liêm einigten sich relativ rasch auf remis und sicherten sich so die Plätze 1 und 2 der Tabelle. Etwas länger dauerte es in den Partien zwischen Praggnanandhaa und Martirosyan, sowie zwischen Shankland und Keymer. Makellos zeigt sich im GMT-Challengers weiterhin die eigentlich am schlechtesten gewertete Teilnehmerin – Vaishali. Sie gewinnt die dritte Partie in Folge, hatte heute aber auch Glück, dass ihr Gegner Samunenkov einen Fehler nicht auszunutzen wusste und dann selbst gleich mehrere beging. Abhimanyu Mishra und Vorjahressieger Lê Quang Liêm einigten sich relativ rasch, nach 22 Zügen, per Zugwiederholung auf ein Remis. Da sich etwas später im Spiel des Drittplatzierten Martirosyan gegen Praggnanandhaa das gleiche Szenario, Unentschieden durch Zugwiederholung, wiederholte, bleibt das Trio Mishra, Lê und Martirosyan an der Spitze des GMT-Masters. Auch im Duell der Letztplatzierten, Keymer vs. Shankland, welches dem Sieger wieder Anschluss an die Spitze geboten hätte, resultierte letztlich ein Remis.

GMT-Challengers: Vaishali und Bjerre siegen

Ihren hervorragenden Lauf im GMT-Challengers fortsetzen konnte heute Vaishali Rameshbabu. Während ihr Bruder Praggnanandhaa im GMT-Masters noch nicht in Fahrt gekommen ist, ist Vaishali mittlerweile die einzige aller Teilnehmenden in den beiden GMT-Turnieren, welche alle drei klassischen Partien gewinnen konnte – und dies als Spielerin mit der schlechtesten Elo-Wertung! In der heutigen Partie gegen Ihor Samunenkov profitierte sie allerdings davon, dass ihr Gegner erst einen Fehler nicht ausnutzen konnte und dann mehrere selbst beging. Auf den Plätzen zwei und drei folgen Salem Saleh und Alexander Donchenko, welche im heutigen Direktduell nach leichten Vorteilen für den Emirati schliesslich dann doch unentschieden spielten. Einen Sprung nach vorne machen konnte Jonas Bjerre, der bestgesetzte Spieler im GMT-Challengers, der heute nach zwei Niederlagen endlich die ersten Punkte im klassischen Schach gewinnen konnte. Er besiegte Marc'Andria Maurizzi, indem er sich im Mittelspiel einen kontinuierlich wachsenden Vorteil erspielen konnte und diesen dann souverän verwertete.

Nach vier Runden im Meisterturnier MTO ist noch Vieles offen. Die meisten der Favoriten liegen noch eng zusammen, zehn Spieler führen die Tabelle mit je 3 ½ von möglichen 4 Punkten an. Als beste Frauen klassieren sich aktuell IM Bibisara Assaubayeva, WIM Alua Nurman und WIM Xeniya Balabayeva, alle aus Kasachstan, mit je 3 Punkten. Beste Schweizer im Turnier sind aktuell FM Moritz Collin und FM Teimur Toktomushev mit je 2 ½ Punkten.

Im Allgemeinen Turnier sind nach heute drei Runden gespielt und es verbleiben acht Teilnehmende, welche noch keine Punkte abgegeben haben, darunter Nicola Schmid, Simon Kuenzli, Lukas Oestmann und Anton Kuenzi aus der Schweiz.

Ausblick: Praggnanandhaa vs. Keymer – beide müssen punkten

Morgen steht ein weiterer Spieltag klassischen Schachs auf dem Programm für die vier zweiwöchigen Turniere. In den beiden Grossmeister-Triathlons GMT steigt die Spannung darum, welche vier Spieler sich für die finale Phase qualifizieren werden – nun gilt es, den Anschluss nicht zu verpassen. Im GMT-Masters betrifft dies insbesondere Praggnanandhaa und Vincent Keymer, aktuell punktgleich Vierte, die morgen direkt aufeinander treffen. Martirosyan spielt mit weiss gegen Mishra und hätte mit einem Sieg die Chance, die Tabellenführung vom jungen Amerikaner zurückzuholen. Schliesslich spielt Shankland gegen Lê Quang Liêm.

Im GMT-Challengers wird Vaishali von Maurizzi gefordert werden, der mit weiss spielend seinen ersten Sieg anstreben muss, um im Rennen zu bleiben.
